Reflexology and Indian Head Massage for health, relaxation and renewal including Reflexology for Menopause

Welcome to The Reflexology Room

My name is Tina and I am a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist and member of The Association of Reflexologists, based in Addlestone, Surrey. I work from a tranquil treatment room in my home treating clients from the surrounding Surrey area of Woking, Weybridge West Byfleet, Shepperton and Chertsey.

Whether you are looking for support with an existing health condition, want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels or would just like a little "me" time, my aim is to get you feeling happier, healthier and energized with specially-tailored Reflexology treatments. Reflexology can help to reduce anxiety and tension thereby helping you to sleep better.

I offer treatments in Foot Reflexology, Facial Reflexology (Bergman Method) and Indian Head Massage. I am also qualified in Reiki and trained to use crystals with reflexology both of which can be incorporated into the treatments offered. Alongside regular reflexology, I now offer a treatment specifically aimed at helping women going through the menopause. Contact me for further information.

I am a full member of the Association of Reflexologists.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a natural therapy founded on the belief that your feet and hands are a reflection of the systems in your body - where specific areas correspond to organs, glands and structure. By applying gentle pressure to areas of the feet or hands a Reflexologist can help the body restore its own healthy balance. Evidence has been found for some form of foot and hand therapy being practiced in China and Egypt more than four thousand years ago.

The holistic approach...

Reflexology aims to treat the individual as a whole, creating a state of harmony in both body and mind. It has the benefit of also being a deeply relaxing therapy, and during periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal, restore and energise itself.

Reflexology is for everyone!

Reflexology is suitable for all ages, from baby to adult, and can be especially helpful for long-term and recurring conditions. Reflexology does not diagnose and does not cure though; as a complementary therapy it should not be considered an alternative to conventional medicine.

Balance

Reflexology is a wonderful way of maintaining your body's healthy balance and general wellbeing, reducing the stresses and tensions that come with busy lifestyles and giving us a space to reflect on the mind as well as the body.

Relaxation

Reflexology can induce a deep state of relaxation, which improves the effectiveness of the treatment. Relaxing helps relieve tension and aids circulation, increasing the flow of nutrients, oxygen and energy to all parts of the body, and helping with the removal of toxins. A relaxing reflexology session can help reduce tension, stress and anxiety

Health

While it is not a cure, Reflexology can be particularly helpful in managing many health conditions, especially constant or recurring ones that we might have come to accept over time as being a normal part of life.

Improves sleep

Helps relieve tension

Aids relaxation

Lifts mood

Well-being booster

Promotes happiness

Helps balance emotions

A few of the more common conditions that can be supported through Reflexology. It is usually safe to have Reflexology alongside conventional medicine, but if you are currently having any medical treatment please speak to your GP before booking an appointment.

Some frequently asked questions...

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone is different and the response to Reflexology can be immediate or sometimes take longer than one appointment, but often benefits can be seen after 4-5 sessions. Regular treatments are best for the body to properly begin the self-healing process, and following an initial consultation I will suggest the number of Reflexology sessions I think you should undertake.

Not necessarily, but after an initial course of treatment many people choose to check in monthly for a top-up, to help maintain their general wellbeing, or as a scheduled 'de-stress'. Other clients will get back in touch if they start feeling aches and pains, arranging treatments as and when they need them.

What happens in a treatment?

Reflexology is performed entirely on either the feet, hands or face, so the most you’ll have to do is take off your shoes and socks and roll up your trousers!

Before the first treatment I will take a full medical history and answer any questions. During the session you will lie on your back on a reclining chair, supported by pillows and covered with a soft blanket to keep you warm.

At the end of the session you will be offered a glass of water and I will give you feedback on your treatment, discuss any imbalances found and advise on aftercare. We can also schedule any future appointments.

Does reflexology hurt?

You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a therapist I will be aware of the status of your feet, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour. All these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your feet or face - require a bit more care and attention. As a reflexologist I do not claim to diagnose or cure but during a treatment I will notice any reactions in certain areas which can indicate an imbalance. This can be discussed at the end of the session.

Treatments Available...

Foot Reflexology

Reflexology is an holistic therapy which works alongside traditional medicine. On your first appointment a health and lifestyle consultation will be completed to ensure you get the most from your session. The treatment is carried out in a reclining chair and the only clothing you need to remove is your shoes and socks. After carrying out a short relaxation routine on the feet, gentle pressure is applied to detect any imballances. Reflexology is extremely relaxing and it is not unusual for clients to drift off to sleep during their treatment. At the end, you will be offered a glass of water and have the chance to ask any questions. Appointments are an hour long which includes the consultation, aftercare advice and about 45 minutes of treatment.

Facial Reflexology

Like the feet, the face offers the reflexologist a map of the body indicating any imbalances or areas that need help. It improves circulation, stimulates the body's healing mechanisms and encourages the release of toxins from the body. All this but with the added benefit of glowing, healthy skin to boost your confidence. A health and lifestyle consultation will be required at your first session. Treatments are carried out in a reclining chair with cushions and warm blankets to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Some of the techniques used are based on Native American medicine and plant based oils are used during this treatment. Sessions are around an hour including the consultation, aftercare advice and around 45 minutes of treatment.

Reflexology for Menopause

Menopause is a natural process that all women will go through. However, it is a time that is often feared by women in western cultures. But with knowledge, wellbeing can be significantly improved and menopause should be viewed as being part of a positive, healthy change in life – a time to decide who you want to be for the rest of your life and to plan how to achieve this.

Reflexologists can be there to provide a hands-on touch therapy, along with a listening ear, and suggestions for possible lifestyle changes. There is compelling evidence that lifestyle has a huge impact on menopausal symptoms and this can be discussed at your reflexology appointment. We will look at the five pillars of health – diet, movement, sleep, relaxation and purpose. Hormone imbalance during menopause, such as elevated cortisol can cause severe symptoms. Research has shown that reflexology can be beneficial in reducing the symptoms of menopause such as hormone imbalance by helping to relax and reset the body.

Indian Head Massage

Based on Ayurvedic medicine, Indian Head Massage has been used in family life in India for many years to promote healthy hair. An extremely relaxing treatment that works on the shoulders, neck and scalp. When stressed we hold a lot of tension in these areas which can cause headaches, eye strain, even hair loss. Using a variety of massage techniques helps to stimulate the flow of blood, lymph and oxygen relieving tension, aches and pains in the upper body. Treatments are carried out in a reclining chair for ultimate relaxation. Loose clothing should be worn and jewellery will need to be removed. Sessions can be either 30 minutes or a luxury treatment using natural, plant based oils for 45 minutes.
